"Is there anything better than to be invited to a free concert at an
experimental gallery?
No, I thought and stepped into the backroom of
SUOMESTA GALLERIA,
situated in Berlin's upcoming
creative art spot
POTSDAMER STRASSE
around
FREIES MUSEUM BERLIN
(Potsdamer Str. 91, 10785 Berlin).
On a table
a huge phantasmagoric apparatus
made of mirrors, spy glasses, step motors, light emitting devices
caught my eyes.
On the left,
CHRISTIAN GIERDEN (Germany)
and
JARI HAANPEKÄ (Finland)
on the right
started
PRESSING, SLIDING, SPINNING THE KNOBS
of a fleet of tiny mixer pults and effect boxes
and the room was instantly filled with
LIGHTS, SOUNDS & SHADOWS.
This was the title of their cooperative
LIVE INSTALLATION
which was performed in an impressive unagitated but agile attitude
before our eyes and ears
on June 4, 2010.
I'm not sure whether the light was electronically triggered by the music
or the music was inducted by the
artists being unconsciously controlled by the light effects of the
rotating mirrors and lenses.
Well, the result was more than enchanting.
The rhythm was heavily throbbing
and the melodies danced
up and down, left and right
weaving a silvery web
of synth layers which circled around
with white halos thrown to the wall
by the mirror machine.
Thank you, Suomesta Galleria
Christian & Jari, thank you."
